Wavyleaf Soap Plant
Chlorogalum pomeridianum

Likely grazed by deer.

I never managed to find any opened flowers until I visited the park with my daughter one afternoon. And then they were all open! The second half of the scientific name, pomeridianum comes from the same term as our p.m. for afternoon or evening does, and the Wavyleaf Soap Plant flowers are usually open only 'past mid-day'. Since I always hiked in the mornings, I kept missing out!

I don't know who was digging up these bulbs ... or how! I tried once and was not successful. But then I kept finding them out on the trails. I can only hope it was for an educational presentation!

I decided to take this one home to see what it was like inside.
